“Birch 0” consists of two parts: a lecture performance and a participatory performance, played simultaneously as a cognition of the archaic and an attempt to transcode it.
Two stories, related to each other and unrelated at all: a site-specific performance - a mystery, directed and guided by three mermaids, where the audience participates in a ritual, completing a series of tasks in attempt to perceive the past in the other way, and the experiment of the “stump scientist”, who learned the algorithm of data mining (“Birch”) and organized a secret laboratory to derive a new code through the preparation of balalaika, gusli, birches and mermaids to decode and transcode Russian imperial past and national idea.
